It is with great regret and sadness that we MEPs of RMDSZ (Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania) have learnt today the passing away of our President Wilfried Martens. He was a wise leader, a genuine European, an extraordinary person endowed with great powers of understanding people and political phenomena.
For us, Wilfried Martens was an excellent dialogue partner, a leader who had a deep comprehension of the specific problems of minority communities across Europe.
Europe has lost a great leader.
We pay homage to his memory and we convey sincere condolences to his bereaved family.
